for the soldiers who gave their lives so very many years ago, and for the three members of the Air Force's Number 3 Squadron who died tragically in a helicopter crash in the early hours of this morning, en route from Ohakea Air Base to Anzac Day services in Wellington:
They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
- from For The Fallen, by Laurence Binyon (1869-1943)
lest we forget.
Yes, I heard about the crash on our morning news. Very sad. :(
